SC Equality Welcomes Amy Garbati to the Board of Directors

South Carolina Equality is pleased to announce that Amy
Garbati of Charleston has joined the South Carolina Equality Board of
Directors. Amy is the Director of Charleston Area Transgender Support
(C.A.T.S.), a local peer support group for transgender individuals. She grew up
in Springfield, Vermont, and has lived in the Charleston area since 1997.
Amy has a degree in engineering, and currently works as the Director of Engineering at a large area hotel where she transitioned on the job in 2009. Last yearís recipient of the Alliance for Full Acceptance (AFFA) Groundbreaker award, Amy is a guest speaker on transgender issues, and has spoken at the Medical University of South Carolina, College of Charleston, University of South Carolina, We Are Family, and consulted with My Sisterís House regarding extending services for victims of domestic violence to transgender females.
As the statewide GLBT advocacy organization, SC Equality is committed to having a diverse Board of Directors that represents the breadth of the GLBT community of South Carolina. Jeff Ayers, Chair of the SC Equality Board said ďIím thrilled that Amy is joining our Board. She brings a wealth of experience to our Board and will be a valuable asset as we continue our work for a South Carolina where everyone is equal.Ē
