S.162 would make it nearly impossible for trans South Carolinians to update the gender marker on identity documents.
S.162 is a direct attack on the trans community, making it impossible to legally change their gender on their IDs (identity documents) outside of restrictive scenarios. This bill would make life harder and less safe for trans South Carolinians, forcing identity documents to be mismatched and not reflect their gender identity. This bill also harms intersex people by placing a restrictive 12-month-since-birth timeline to make decisions and changes.
