Pride Month in South Carolina: How to Celebrate, Show Up, and Support Equality

How to Celebrate, Show Up, and Support Equality Meta description: Pride Month in South Carolina is a chance to celebrate, connect, and invest in equality. Here are real ways to show up across the state this June.

Pride Month in South Carolina is more than a celebration — it is a statement of presence. Every June, LGBTQ+ South Carolinians and their allies show that this community is here, it is rooted, and it is not going anywhere. Whether this is your first Pride or your twentieth, there are real, concrete ways to take part across the state.

What Pride means in South Carolina

Pride began as a protest, and in a state where the LGBTQ+ community still faces legislative challenges, that history feels close. But Pride here is also joyful, defiant, and deeply Southern. It is built on the simple, durable belief that every person deserves to live with dignity, safety, and the freedom to be themselves. SC Equality has carried that work since 2002 — 24 years of advocacy as South Carolina's longest-standing LGBTQ+ organization.

Ways to show up this June

Celebrating Pride is also a way to strengthen the community year-round. A few ways to get involved with SC Equality this season:

  • Give Out Day (June 4). The national day of giving for LGBTQ+ organizations. Gifts to SC Equality this year are matched up to $1,000. Donate here.

  • OUTFEST Columbia (June 6). Local pride festival in Columbia, SC, celebrating 50+ local businesses, dozens of entertainers, and kicking off Pride Month in the Midlands.

  • Capital City Cocktail Competition (June 14). A local competition at 1122 Lady Street in Columbia, with proceeds benefiting SC Equality.

Show up beyond the events

Pride is also about everyday choices. Spend your dollars at queer-owned and affirming South Carolina businesses. Talk with your family and neighbors about why equality matters. And if you can, invest in the organization that does this work all year, not just in June.

SC Equality organizes people across all of South Carolina, in good times and hard ones. Join our network to stay informed and make a gift to help sustain the work.

This Pride Month, show up. We'll be right there with you.

Equal means everyone.
